St. James Social
Heritage Hotel Reimagined
Nestled in the picturesque hills of historic downtown Bayfield, Wisconsin, the St. James Social is a testament to timeless charm and thoughtful design. Originally established in 1884, this boutique hotel has been meticulously reimagined through a design process that honors its storied past while embracing a bold, modern aesthetic that reflects Bayfield’s progressive renaissance.
The design journey began with a deep respect for the original architecture of the St. James Hotel. Every detail of the restoration was approached with care—from preserving the building’s historic structure and intricate craftsmanship to introducing modern elements that enhance both functionality and comfort. The result is a harmonious fusion of heritage and innovation, where the character of the past meets the clean lines and refined touches of contemporary design.
Throughout the space, the design focuses on creating an inviting atmosphere that celebrates community and connection. Custom furnishings, locally inspired artwork, and warm, natural materials evoke a sense of place, while thoughtful spatial planning ensures a seamless flow between the boutique hotel, restaurant, and social lounge. Each corner of St. James Social tells a story, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the rich history and vibrant culture of Bayfield.
The St. James Social is more than a beautifully designed retreat; it’s a gateway to Bayfield and the Apostle Islands. Every design choice was made to enhance the guest experience, whether enjoying a meal in the curated restaurant, relaxing in the thoughtfully lit social lounge, or gazing out at the breathtaking natural surroundings. The interior and exterior spaces were crafted to inspire moments of connection, reflection, and joy.
Discover a space where design bridges history and modernity, creating an environment that feels both timeless and forward-thinking. At St. James Social, the design process is part of the story, and every guest is invited to become a part of it.
